He was inducted in the Haddon Heights HS and Gettysburg College Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and 1995, respectively.

Following college he had an opportunity to play professional baseball for the Cleveland Indians but George decided to continue his education at the New York Medical College where he received his MD degree in 1956. He had a distinguished medical career of more than 50 years in NJ PA including Medical Director of Camden County (N.J.) Health Services Center. George established and headed not only the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Cooper Medical Center but also the first palliative care unit in a long-time care facility in the state of NJ. George served as the secretary of the Camden County Medical Society, as a member of the Gettysburg Board of Fellows, and his nation as a Major in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was deeply devoted to his family and anyone who really knew him could not help but respect, admire and love him dearly. He was a dedicated physician, who occasionally wondered how his life might have been if he had chosen to play professional sports, but never doubted that medicine was his calling. The countless lives he touched, healed and enriched through his long career give testimony to that fact. He was an avid golfer, loved playing the slots and hanging out with his dog and cats at home. He leaves behind many great memories and a legacy of caring, respect and commitment to excellence in everything he did.
