In area theaters. By JOE BALTAKE Daily News Movie Reviewer Only a few of its cast members are around for the end-credits of the latest installment of "The Crystal Lake Slasher Massacre" officially known as "Friday the 13th The Final Chapter." I vowed to ignore this movie as well as others of its ilk but it reportedly pulled in a whopping $14 million during the first week of its release and, you know, money talks. It is reviewed here for the record because, obviously, its blood-thirsty makers have their fingers on America's nioviegoing pulse. I anyone mistake the nature of 1 5 V- "Flnal Chapter" campers seem unaware they're being stalked FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE the excitement, the essence, the ethnicity, the foreign, the familiar REDISCOVER YOUR HERITAGE EXPLORE THE WORLD at this series of movies, there's a replay here of the previous three films' most colorful splatter scenes before and during the opening credits. And the repetition continues well into the movie's plot.

There's a bludgeoning, stabbing or decapitation every few minutes in "The Final Chapter," each based on the trendy-but tattered idea that promiscuous teenagers UNLIMITED fcafflTII ff 'tVQTVVUinilT IIUUII flJifUJJf (especially girls) must be punished by that masked (a goalie's mask, to be specific) macho avenger, Jason. Jason, the thing that won't die, has been resurrected for every film. He's the kid who almost drowned in Crystal Lake while his counselors were of fornicating. Ever since has been dedicated to the extermination of young people engaged in the primal act Director Joseph Zito stages his catastrophes in a helter-skelter fashion, deadening all potential thrills. He works in cycles, with Jason invariably jumping through a door or window and slashing someone with a spear, knife or scalpel.

The film is neatly divided into sex acts and mutilations, with the latter as boring and flat as the former are inexpressive. It may be called "The Final Chapter," but I've a hunch we'll be visiting Camp Murderlands this time next year. Parental Guide: Rated for you- know-what. LAURA LEE CUM?
