Palm, member of the Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology, 36th and Spruce- Streets, died Monday in Jane Brown Hospital, Providence, R.

of cancer. She was 49, and lived H. P. Van Dusen, Theologian, Retired Head of Seminary Dr. Henry P.

Van Dusen, retired president of the Union Theological Seminary (Presbyterian) and trustee emeritus of Princeton University, died Wednesday at the Carrier Clinic, Belle Mead, N.J. He was 76, and lived at 27 Armor Princeton. Dr. Van Dusen also was a former trustee of Vassar and Smith Colleges, and had received honorary degrees from more than a dozen colleges and universities. He was born in Philadelphia and was a leader in the at 226 W.

Rittenhouse Square. Dr. Palm became a full member of the Institute in 1973 after having been an associate member since 1958. She was an immunogeneti-cist with an international reputation, having authored or formation of the World Council of Churches. He was the author of two books, "Life's Meaning" and "Guardian Education." He also helped edit the 26-volume "Library of Christian Classics." A graduate of William Penn Charter School, he received a bachelor of arts degree from Princeton in 1919 and a bachelor of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary, New York City, in 1924.

He remained on the Union faculty retiring in 1963 after 18 years as president. Dr. Van Dusen received a stuttering, died in Czechoslovakia. The author of more than 120 works, he was an outspoken critic of forcing left-handed children to use the right hand. Esther Shephard, 83, an English instructor who turned the legend of Paul Bun-yan into a children's classic, died in San Francisco.

Mrs. Shephard, professor emeritus of English at San Jose State University, first published her version of "Paul Bunyan" 50 years ago. It remains in print today, the latest edition illustrated by Rockwell Kent. Jackson Memorial Laboratory at Bar Harbor, she studied at the University of Wisconsin, receiving a master's degree there in 1952 and a doctorate degree in genetics in 1955. From 1954 until 1958, Dr. Palm held research positions at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York, where she became involved in the chemotherapy of human tumors. In recognition of the importance of her work she was appointed to the editorial boards of "Journal of Immunology," "Transplantation" and "Folia Biologica," international scientific publications. Dr.

Palm was a member of the Immunobiology Study Section of the National Institutes of Health and a consultant to the National Cancer Institute. She also held appointments as professor in the departments of medical genetics and pathobiology of the University of Pennsylvania. 0 She is survived by her mother and a sister. Burial took place Thursday in N. Scituate, R.

I. iW. Hannas, 85, Priest 50 Years The Rev. William H. Hannas, 85, a Jesuit priest, died Wednesday in Wernersville, Berks County, at the Jesuit hospital.

He was a priest for more than 50 years. Father Hannas had been a member of the staff of Old St. Joseph's Church on Will-ing's Alley in Philadelphia since 1967. He was born in German-town and entered the Society of Jesus at Poughkeepsie, N. in 1907, after graduating from Roman Catholic High School here.

After several years of teaching in the Boston area and additional studies at Woodstock College in Maryland, he was ordained in Maryland in 1921. Father Hannas had many assignments as a priest, including two in Jamaica. He taught at St. George's College in Kingston, Jamaica, from 1938 to 1967, prior to joining Old St. Joseph's.

Father Hannas served the Philadelphia church until two weeks ago. He is survived by nieces and nephews. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 7:30 P.M. today at Old St. Joseph's.

Burial will be Saturday morning in Holy Cross Cemetery. Carrie Sloan Mrs. William A. Sloan, widow of a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, died Tuesday at Simpson House of the United Methodist Church, Belmont Avenue and Edgeley where she had lived since August 1973. She was 83, and formerly lived in Havertown and Upper Darby.

Mrs. Sloan was the former Carrie McGowan. Her husband, who died in 1960 at the age of 69, had taught mechanical engineering at Penn from 1912 until his retirement in 1956. Bertin, 80, Radiologist co-authored more than 50 published scientific papers in this country and abroad. Dr. Palm was born in Fitchfield, Mass. She re-cieved a bachelor of science degree in 1948 from the University of Rhode Island after majoring in zoology and doctor of divinity degree from Edinburgh University, Scotland, in 1932. A former board member of the Rockefeller Foundation, he was a former member of the National YMCA Council and numerous religious organizations.

Surviving are three sons, John, Henry and Derek. Dr. Van Dusen's wife, the former Elizabeth Bartholomew, died last week. Memorial services will be held at noon Monday in James Chapel at the Union Theological Seminary. LARRY CROSBY Mrs.

Louis D'Ambrosio 58, director of public works for Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, died Wednesday at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He lived at 73 Jeffrey Lane, Strafford. Mr. D'Ambrosio, public works director since 1964, had been a township employe since 1947. He started as a highway foreman, later became highway supervisor and for a time was acting township manager.

He was born in Merion and was a graduate of Tredyff-rin-Easttown High School. He was a founder and past president of the Devon-Strafford Lions Club and one of the founders last year of the Upper Main Line Conductors Association, a group formed to aid area charities. He was a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers, the Montgomery County Public Works Association, the Chester Valley Golf Club, Lenni Athletic Club and the Robert W. Maxwell Memorial Football Club of Philadelphia. He was a trustee of the Jenkins Arboretum Foundation of Berwyn.

Surviving are his wife, the former Trusiline Belmonte; a son, Louis a daughter, Mrs. Darlene Edwards; his mother, Mrs. Jennie D'Ambrosio; four brothers; three sisters; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A. M.

I Larry Crosby, 80, older brother of singer Bing Crosby, died Wednesday of cancer in Los Angeles. He was associated with Bing Crosby Enterprises and devoted most of his attention to the Bing Crosby annual golf tournament at Pebble Beach. For most of his life he worked on various projects with his brother.

In 1971 he was executive director of Prisoners in Exchange for American Constructive Enterprise, a group that attempted without success to obtain better treatment of American prisoners of war in Vietnam or have them interned in a neutral country. Mr. Crosby was the oldest of the seven children of brewery bookkeeper Harry Lowe Crosby and Kate Harri-gan Crosby. The youngest is bandleader Bob Crosby. Gen.

Andre Beaufre, 73, commander of French ground forces in the 1956 Suez invasion, died of a heart attack in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, while on a lecture tour. Charles Lutz, 80, a Swiss diplomat who helped tens of thousands of Jews escape the Auschwitz gas chambers in World War II, died of a heart attack in Bern, Switzerland. Miloslav Seeman, 82, an authority on treatment of Mrs. Lemmon, Widow Of Surgeon Mrs. William T.

Lemmon, 70, widow of a prominent surgeon, died Tuesday at Underwood Memorial Hospital, Woodbury, N.J. She lived at 523 Hunter Woodbury. She previously resided in Gladwyne, Montgomery County. Dr. Lemmon, who died last September, was a former professor of surgery at Thomas Jefferson University, a former president of Doctors Hospital nere and former president ti lis staff and chief of surgery at Woodbury Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Lemmon, the former Madeleine Pierce of Wilmington, starred in lacrosse and field hockey at Wilmington Friends School and later at Bryn Mawr College, from which she was graduated in 1927. She was a member of the Merion Cricket Club, the Merion Golf Club and the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society. In 1967 she was named a national figure skating judge by the United States Figure Skating Association. Surviving axe a son, Dr.

William T. four daughters, Mrs. Jane L. Howell, Mrs. Nancy L.

Blemker, Mrs. Constance L. Goracci, and Mrs. Suzette L. George; a brother, and 11 grandchildren.

Dr. Elmer J. Bertin, 80, former radiologist at Miseri-cordia Hospital, died Tuesday at the Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, he lived at 511 Con-shohocken State Gladwynne. Dr. Bertin joined the staff of Misericordia in 1924 and was radiologist there until he retired in 1959 and was named radiologist emeritus.

He served as a consultant at that hospital and at Fitzgerald Mercy. In 1969 the two hospitals became divisions of Mercy Catholic Medical Center and he continued as consultant. He was graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1918. He interned at St. Agnes Hospital until 1922.

He was assistant in radiology at Philadelphia General Hospital before joining the Misericordia staff. Dr. Bertin was a member of the American Medical Association, the Philadelphia County Medical Society, and the Philadelphia Roentgen Society. Surviving are a daughter, William E. Irons Jr.

William E. Irons 69, who retired in 1972 after 11 years as a quality control inspector for the Boeing Vertol Morton, died Wednesday at the Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital. He lived at 214 Albemarle Lansdowne. Surviving are his wife, Leona; a son, William E. two daughters Margaret Mary and Mrs.

Leona Anne Sturm; a brother; three sisters, and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A. M. Saturday at St. Charles Bor-romeo Church, Burmont Road and Dennison Avenue, Drexel Hill.

John J. Parkinson John J. Parkinson, production manager on Consolidated Laundries 32d Street and Powelton Avenue, for the last eight years, died Tuesday at his home, 2021 S. Croskey St. He was 56.

Mr. Parkinson served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Su-viving are his wife, the former Ruth Murphy, and a daughter, Linda. Burial will be private. grandchild.
