Although unbeaten Upper Moreland (7-0) has jumped off to an impressive lead in the Suburban One American Conference, the Lions from Lower Moreland are giving the Bears a run for their money. Lower Moreland (6-2) proved once again that it has the hitting ability to win the high scoring games.

Against Upper Dublin (24) on Thursday, the Lions rebounded from a 3-0 first inning deficit to defeat the Cardinals, 15-9. First baseman Kim Santerian and leftfielder Kelly Neill led the Lions' offense with two hits each, while star second baseman Elaine Sarkioglu scored three runs. Third baseman Lisa Johnson had a two-run double in the Lions' eight-run fourth inning. First baseman Colleen Murin scored three runs for Upper Dublin. Despite the success of Lower More-land, Upper Moreland just keeps on rolling.

Pitcher Alissa Wykes tossed a one-hitter Thursday, the offense pounded out 20 hits and 21 runs and the Bears beat Cheltenham (34), 21-1. Righfielder Karyn Lodise had four hits and six RBIs for the Bears. First baseman Aileen Cromwell had Cheltenham's lone hit. In other American Conference liam Tennent and Abington are competitive in the Suburban One Girls' Soccer League, Council Rock is the league powerhouse. The Indians (7-0-1) proved thatj point Thursday when they clipped Upper Dublin, 4-0.

Upper Dublin goalie Suzanne Mears faced more than 20 shots on goal as the Indians totally dominated the game and led 2-0 at halftime. The Cards, on the other hand, managed only three shots on goal. Upper Moreland fared a little better, and goals from Missy Yelland and Lucia Rossi allowed the Bears to rebound and tie Upper Merion, 2-2. Upper Merion led at halftime, 1-0, but Rossi scored her first goal of the season to tie the score early in the second half. Yelland gave the Bears the lead midway in the half, but Upper Merion knotted the score with three minutes left.

In another game Thursday, William Tennent kept Abington winless at 0-8 by shutting out the Ghosts, 6-0. Volleyball. Archbishop Wood won the battle of the local powers Wednesday when it tripped Bishop McDevitt, 15-8, 15-6. Both teams entered the match unbeaten at 5-0, but Wood centers Meg Rankin and Kathy Greenberg proved to be too much for the McDevitt defense. In fact, Gurysh will jump at nearly anything, as long as it offers a medal. A senior at William Tennent High School, Gurysh is the defending outdoor PIAA and indoor state triple jump champion. She was the third-place finisher in the long jump at the PIAA meet last year, and the second-place finisher in the indoor long jump. Thursday at the 91st running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field, Gurysh added a little more luster to those accomplishments by taking third place in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 5 Mi inches. The winn-ning leap was 19-1 V4 by Jamaica's Denise Green.

"At least I'm the best in this country," Gurysh said, alluding to the two Jamaicans who took first and second. "The field was tougher than last year but I did the best that I could and everything turned out all right." Gurysh wasn't the only area participant to excel at Penn. Abington's relay team of Donyale Greenwell, Rochelle Greenwell, Sue Rowland and Leigh Mundy won their heat in 4 minutes, 0.8 seconds and finished 18th overall. Gwynedd-" Mercy Academy's Colleen Scanlan placed fifth in the run at games Thursday, Plymouth-White-marsh tripped Upper Merion, 114, and Methacton beat Wissahickon, 14-2. In the Suburban One National Conference Thursday, unbeaten Penns-bury (7-0) scored eight of its nine runs in the second and third innings and the Falcons beat Abington, 9-0.

Winless in seven league games, Abington got two hits from centerfield-er Meg Sorber. William Tennent beat Bensalem, 5-2, in another National Conference game. Hatboro-Horsham is having a tough time in the Bux-Mont League, and Thursday's 12-11 loss to Quaker-town shows why. The Hatters (2-6) scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead, but an error in the bottom of the frame allowed the Panthers to score the winning run. In other games Thursday, Bristol topped Springfield, 13-7, and Lans-dale Catholic beat Archbishop Kennedy, 13-3, in the Bicentennial League.

Friday, Gwynedd-Mercy Academy beat Morrisville, 144. In the Bux-Mont League, Central Bucks West bombed Central Bucks East, 17-0. On Friday, Germantown Academy beat Baldwin in the Inter-Ac League, 25-7. Soccer. Although area schools' Upper Moreland, Upper Dublin, Wil 4:39.4, Upper Dublin's Julia Solo was seventh in the shot put and Wissa-hickon's 400 relay team was fifth at 50.17.

Lacrosse. Upper Dublin is one of the better teams in the Suburban One League, but the Cardinals had a tough time of it Thursday against pesky Methacton. Entering the game at 3-0 in the league, Upper Dublin got goals from Kerry McPoyle (4), Jennie Smith (4) and Jane Catanzaro (3). However, Methacton (0-3-1) scored five goals in the second half to rebound from a 7-6 halftime deficit and forge an 11-11 tie. Elsewhere in the league, Upper Moreland got seven goals from Amy Silcox and three from Kris Berlinger as it defeated winless Abington, 18-6.

Central Bucks West (7-1) opened the second half of the Bux-Mont League season Thursday with a 17-12 win over Pennridge. Kelly Cuthbert scored seven goals for West and Sharon Seiz added five. Elsewhere in the Bux-Mont Thursday, Stacy Ruch scored twice but Souderton tripped Hatboro-Horsham, 144, and Central Bucks East beat Upper Perkiomen, 19-9. On Friday,.
