There ii still 575,000 in the Earthier in yestigation which seems to be subject to some differences ot opinion. One of the committeemen stated yesteruay that just be- fore Bardsley's resignation he drew three checks ot 525,000 each on the Third ational iBank that this money could not be traced lv the experts, and that it was a matter entirely outside of the 52,827,000 on the balance sheet. Mr. Hicks stated last evening that the 575.000 in question was included in the balance sheet, and that it was no mystery. The explanation was that it was drawn to put in the cash drawer to supply what Bardsley had previously taken out of the city funds.

In this case there remains nly the item of 5107,000, which the experts know Bardsley received and have not traced Lis disposition of it In the experts final report! besides the assets and liabilities balancing at 52, 827,000, and the profit and loss account and the exhibit of the untraceable of which have been given in The Inquirer, there is an itemized account of Bardsley's personal expenses and also what is called an "unknown account." Bardsley gave checks on the Keystone for his smallest expenses and the vast number of checks making up about 545,000 were for less than 5100 and many beiDg lor 52, 53 and 53. A large amount was drawn now and then for bis taxes. The names of people to whom these little checks were payable, the vast majority cf whom, if not all, were perfectly innocent of the sonrce of his money, inclnde nearly everybody in town. Democratic names occur almost as often as Republican names. Even F.

Harrity" is anions them. This is supposed to be none other than the Democratic leader and Secretary of the Commonwealth. The amonut of the check was 55 It is said to have been payment for tickets for the Philopatrian Club's ball. It affords an instance how little the people who had email business relations with Bardsley a year ago suspected that their names would ever come out in connection with such an investigation. The "Unknown Account" includes items of money received by Bardsley and amounting to 514000.

"Where he got it the experts cannot teLl, There is talk among the Van Osten Committee of troing dowu to Washington in a body to follow up their letters to Secretary Foster concerning the expert examination of the Spring Garden Bank. The letter of Saturday was not answered yesterday. The committee are anxions to figure up the cost ot their "work. Thete has been some guessing thai it would reach 525,000. In the executive session the other day Mr.

James pot ofl a joke at Mr. Etting's expense. He eaid he hid calculated that Mr. Etting's use of the wrd "anterior" in his skillful examination of witnesses bad cost the municipality just 5175. Mr.

Etting, who can appreciate a good joke even at his own expense, tool: a hearty laugh with the rest and laithfully 'promised to say "prior" and "be- lore" and "previous" instead of "anterior." PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL UNION. Dinner at itne Bellevrie AVitb. Interest-ins: Addresses. The Presbvterian Social Union of Philadelphia met fcist night at the Hotel Bellevue. After enjoying an elaborate dinner the niembers were called to order by the president.

Robert C. Ogden, who introduced Rev, Dr. Lawrence M. Colfelt, the guest of the Union, who delivered the address of the evenine on "The Present Outlook of the Presbyterian Church." Dr. Colfelt in his remarks spoke of the revolutionary jspirit ot the age, which bad permeated srjfu-itual as well as material things.

He loked on the revision of the "Westminster (Confession as inevitable and advisable. On the elders of the church rests the responsibility of creating a new Presby-terianism, not German, Genevan nor Scotch- Irish, but American in toleration and energy. George Junfcir followed a few re marks, in which he deprecated the efforts being made towards revision of the con lession. Bev. Dr.

Henry McCook said that the question oi' revision was before the church and must be taced. He was in favor of revision it in harmony with Presbyterian standards. There were presertt 130 members and the following guests: Rev. Dr. Henry C.
