He lived in the Old City district. Mr. Frambes, a former editor and theatrical designer, opened the inn four years ago on South Quince Street.

Located behind the Forrest Theater, between 11th and 12th Streets and Locust and Walnut Streets, it quickly became an actors' hangout and spot for theatergoers. The menu reflected his sense of humor and the restaurant theme, offering such touches as "Decapitated coffee." Kntrees were always topped by "Victim of the Day." Mr. Frambes, who had a reputation as something of a chef as well as a popular host, worked in both roles at the restaurant. He enjoyed both, he said. "It's like giving a dinner party and getting paid for it," he told a friend.

Born In Bridgeton, N.J., he worked for a time on the newspaper there. He became interested In the theater and found his way to New York. He worked in set and costume design and collaborated with Jose Limon and his dance company. He was an editor for the J.B. Lip- pincott Co.

and for Chilton Publishers and became an account executive for Jean Brieg Associates, an agency specializing In book promotion and publicity.
