A personal friendship, commoncing in mv boyhood and existing for moro than half a century, with this remarkable woman, my great admiration nf her character, and my affectionate regard for her in all these years, prompts this brief heartfelt un'uie io iier memory. Mrs. Toy. whose maiden name was Cassldav.

was born In tho city of Philadelphia, in the vear 17115. From her youth up the was remarkable lor her ex emplary walk and conversation, and in girlhood was noted lorn maturity oi mind and excellence of judgment beyond her years. In very earlv life she connected herself with tho Methodist Eoiseonal and for moro than seventy years she has lhcd the highest type of an intelligent, earnest, i.euve, nnsiiau woman, ui ttie particulars of her Christian character and work, others will speak elsewhere; but I cannot forbear saving here that such a life as that of Mrs. Toy Is tho highest possible evidence which our humanity can give of the vital truths of tha Chrlftlan reliirlon. Miss Cassldav was married in 1837 to Mr.

Toy was a woman of rare gifts. "I have never met one who struck me as possessing so logical a mind with such a storehouse of Information to draw from. She was a stronir, rather than a bril liant talker, but ono never ruse from a conversation with her without feeling that they had boen in the prosence of an intelligent, cultivated, lovely Christian laily. She was alloctlonately devoted to her iainllv and friends, to her church and its ministers: benevolent. charitable; always abounding in good works.
