Notices were posted in the South Sharon plant of jhe American Sheet and Tin Plate Company and other tinmaking plants in the valley today of an advance in wages effective May 1. The scale is higher demanded by the Amalgamated Association in 1908. Employes in the tinning department will receive an advance of 17 cents a ton. According to the new scale, the following increases are made under the various gauges: Koller, 1 to 1G cents a ton; doublers, 1 to 11 cents a ton; heaters, 1 to 40 cents a ton; catchers, 1 to 5 cents a ton; screw boys and shearmen, 1 to 2 cents a ton. The officials say these advances are made voluntarily.

The move lias caused quite a sensation among the striking tin plate workers of the Pittsburg district, who have been out since July 1 last demanding better pay and recognition of the union.
